What Is Shrink Wrap?

Shrink wrap is a plastic film that shrinks tightly around a product once heat is applied, typically through a shrink tunnel. Once shrunk, the film holds its shape, encases the item closely, and provides tamper evidence, meaning any attempt to open the package is visible. Shrink wrap also requires minimal storage space compared to rigid packaging and, because it is light compared to cardboard, it can reduce transportation costs. High-performance stretch films are engineered to stretch up to 300%, and some machine-grade films, such as one-side cling films, are engineered to stretch up to 250% while maintaining puncture resistance and cling.
